Solar installation at SOS Children’s Village, Bande (Nassogne), March 2026

“If life knocks you down, look up… the stars are still there,” could be read on the bathroom wall

... and now there are also 48 solar panels! 🌞

The Chantevent Village d’enfants in Bande (Nassogne) welcomes about thirty children every day into a family-like setting, supervised by an educational team. In this caring environment, the children can grow and develop safely and at their own pace. In this caring environment, the children can grow and develop safely and at their own pace.

As part of the renovation of certain buildings, the center asked us to help them reduce their energy bills and lower their carbon footprint.

To achieve this, our project manager Jacques H has planned the installation of 48 panels and two inverters.

After a thorough analysis of the needs and technical possibilities, along with some preparatory work, the project was scheduled for a sunny Saturday in March.

And our 18 volunteers—including 5 newcomers supervised by the most experienced members—completed the work in a single day!

These projects in Belgium allow new volunteers to discover our activities “in the field” and to meet and exchange ideas with our experts before embarking on a mission further afield.

And of course, users have been trained in the optimal use of this new installation, and there’s no doubt that the center’s children will benefit from the savings made.

By tracking the system’s usage and output, we’ll be able to gain valuable insights into proper sizing.

🙏 Thank you to our project manager Jacques H. and to all our amazing volunteers, Kasper A., Sylvia B., Yousef G., Benoit G., Eric G., Yves H., Vincent M., Michel M., Tony MdH., Justine P., Jean-Luc R., Jean-Paul S., Dominique T., Dario T., Thomas V., and Oriano V. for their dedication, time, and good spirits!
