This new mission at Goza secondary school in Ethiopia is the 6th school electrification project led by Miklós Almásy in the country, in partnership with Arba Minch University (AMU).
At the beginning of June 2026, our three volunteers Muddassar N. (Engie Solutions – United Arab Emirates), Markus K. (Laborelec – Belgium) and Ashenafi G. (ex-Tractebel – Ethiopia) completed a solar installation in Goza, Ethiopia.
Our mission leader, Muddassar, skilfully led a multicultural team mixing volunteers from EA and AMU, some experienced and some inexperienced. The result was not only a sharing of knowledge, but also a wonderful human adventure with multiple challenges, encounters and new friendships.
And thanks to our partnership with AMU, the project contributes to the development of local skills, while ensuring the sustainability of the installations.
To provide lighting and power for the secondary school, we installed 10 kWp of solar modules, two 6 kW inverter chargers and 20 kWh Li-Po batteries for energy storage. This environmentally-friendly electrical installation considerably improves educational conditions for the 360 students and their 22 teachers.
.
The mission was combined with a repair visit to the Chaba Beles school, which will be electrified by EA in 2022.
Congratulations and thank you all for your commitment and for this wonderful project.
